Dennis Wong of IPI bagged the coveted “Golfer of the Year” honors in the 22nd edition of the Business in Golf Tournament played Thursday at the Cebu Country Club.

Wong shared the limelight with Marko Sarmiento, who fired the tournament’s best gross score and Junrex, which bagged the team title of the event co-presented by the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry and OPASCOR.

Wong carded a net score of 45 points to claim the award, which is exclusive for company representatives or alternates to the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Sarmiento, who played for team Contempo Properties in the four-man team event, scored two-under-par 38 points to bag the lowest gross honors.

The team title went to Junrex, which had a total of 165 points in the four-to-play, all to count format using the Modified Stableford Scoring System.

The Daniel Jed Yap and Ricardo ‘Ricky’ Go both turned in 43 points for Junrex while Fr. Bobby Ebisa made 40 and team captain Pablo Yap, Jr. had 39 points.

First runner-up was Team Lolong with 161 points.  The team was composed of Nino Bascon (43), Washington ‘Wally’ Lim (41), Jonji Chiongbian (41), and Frederic Chiongbian (36).

Second runner-up was IPI with 155.  The team members were Dennis Wong (45), Edwardson Chiu (40), Jeanette Chiu (35), and Cristino Lim (35).

Nino Bascon won the award for the longest drive on Hole No. 8 where he blasted a tee shot that was 310 yards long.

Washington Lim got the special award for nearest to the pin on Hole No. 3 leaving 95 inches for a birdie putt.

The tournament chaired by Regan Rex King drew a total of 33 teams.

The BiG is part of the Cebu Business Month celebration, which is chaired by Francis Dy.
