Super Metro is collaborating with the Cebu Football Association for the staging of the 4th Sinulog Cup Football Festival this weekend at the San Roque Parish Field and the Aboitiz Sports Field both in Subangdaku, Mandaue City.
This is the biggest sponsorship that Super Metro has given to football and this early, the chain of department stores and supermarkets has promised an even bigger event next year.
A total of 168 teams are seeing action in the tournament this year, said Gregorio Balsicas III of the organizing committee. He pointed out that this is fewer than the number of participants last year as several schools could not field teams due to the make-up classes on Saturdays brought about by the class suspensions after the earthquake and super typhoon late in 2013.
Games set this Saturday at the Aboitiz sports Field will be those for U7 Mixed, U9 Mixed, U11 Mixed, U15 Girls, and U18 Girls.
Over at the San Roque Parish Field will be the games for U18 Boys, U15 Boys, and U13 Boys.
This will be a seven-a-side event. Games will start at 7:30 a.m. on both venues on both days.
On Sunday, the Aboitiz Sports Field will host the Men’s Open event where there are 25 teams registered.
The San Roque Parish Field will be the venue for the Inter-BPO, Inter-Company, ladies Open, and the 38 and above category.
At stake for the winners of the different age groups and tournament categories will be trophies for the teams and medals for the players.
By supporting this event, Super Metro is also reaching out to the children in order to help develop their love for football in this FIFA World Cup year.
Other categories where there are several entries are U18 Boys with 24, U 15 Boys and U 13 Boys with 20 each and the U 11 Mixed with 15 teams.
Also supporting the tournament are Aboitiz Land, Aboitiz Sports Field, Noise Garage, and Dakay Construction and Development Corporation.
