THE Sportswriters Association of Cebu will hold the annual SAC-SMB Sports Awards on April 20 at the Robinsons Galleria Atrium at 2 p.m.

Originally scheduled last March 30, the event will gather Cebu’s finest athletes like boxer Donnie Nietes, the longest-reigning Filipino world champion.

Nietes, a multiple Athlete of the Year awardee, will be joined by Cebuano Southeast Asian Games medalists like Mary Joy Tabal, Rinna Babanto, Rubilen Amit, Warren Kiamco, Alexis Sy, Jomar Jumapao, Aiumi Ono, Madille Salinas among others.

Other major awardees this year are PBA MVP June Mar FAjardo, Jerish John Velarde and Richard Bitoon for chess, Lloyd Jefferson Go and Charles Hong for golf, Daniela dela Pisa for gymnastics, Kiyomi Watanabe for judo, Rafael Vidal for karatedo, Ken Caniga for Muay Thai and Raven Faith Alcoseba for swimming.

SAC will also hand out citations to other outstanding athletes who had outstanding performances last year.

“We’re proud of our Cebu athletes; among them the longest-reigning Filipino boxing champion, the country’s top long-distance runner, the country’s most dominant basketball player and a list of national team members,” said SAC president Rico Navarro.
