PRESS RELEASE

PLDT Home Ultera tries to wrap it all up Tuesday and complete the firm’s sweep of the country’s premier volley titles as it guns for the Spikers’ Cup crown against Cagayan Valley today (Tuesday) in Game Two of the First Conference Ffinals at The Arena in San Juan City.

The Ultra Fast Spikers went to their floor and net defense to stymie the Rising Suns and hack out a 25-22, 21-25, 25-23, 25-12 victory in the opener of their best-of-three series last Sunday.

The win came moments after their counterparts – the PLDT Ultra Fast Hitters – edged the Army Lady Troopers in a classic five-set duel to capture the Shakey’s V-League Season 12 Open Conference diadem before a jampacked crowd.

Coach Odjie Mamon braces for a big Cagayan fightback but remains confident of his wards’ chances to finish off the Rising Suns in their 4 p.m. encounter and earn the bragging rights as the first Spikers’ Turf champions.

Mamon will again pin his hopes on the foursome of Mark Alfafara, Vic de Guzman, Howard Mojica and Kheeno Franco for firepower and blocking, Vincent Mangulabnan for playmaking, and Gilbert Longavela and Jayson Ramos for reception and digs while skipper Rolando Casillan, Henry Peca-A and John Torres hope to provide quality minutes and clutch hits for the team.

“We’ll make it a little harder for them with our defense,” said Mamon.

But Cagayan, which lorded it over the field in the elims, is expected to come up with key adjustments although coach Nes Pamilar will most likely rely on his talented crew of Marck Espejo, Peter Torres, Jan Paglinawan and Rex Intal for offense.

PLDT produced 56 attacks, nine blocks and four aces in besting Cagayan Sunday although the Rising Suns didn’t actually fare bad with 52 kills, seven blocks and two aces.

Air Force, meanwhile, also seeks to close out its own best-of-three series for third with Cignal in the 2 p.m. opener after the Airmen pulled off a thrilling five-set decision also last Sunday.

The league, presented by PLDT Home Ultera and backed by Mikasa, will also name the conference’s top players in brief rites after the Air Force-Cignal duel.

Games can be viewed live via streaming on www.v-league.ph, according to the organizing Sports Vision with the matches to be shown on a delayed basis on PTV-4 starting at 10:30 Tuesday (Air Force vs Cignal) and on Thursday (PLDT vs Cagayan).
