PRESS RELEASE

Fourbees-Perpetual Help charged back from a sorry setback in the fourth with a strong finishing kick as it toppled Coast Guard, 26-15, 19-25, 25-22, 26-28, 15-11, to check a two-game skid in theShakey’s V-League Season 12 Open Conference elims at The Arena in San Juan City Thursday.

Jamel Suyat poured it all in the fifth set and outpointed Coast Guard top hitter Rossan Fajardo, carrying the former NCAA champions to their first victory after dropping their first two games to powerhouse Cagayan Valley and Army.

“It’s nice to win our first game here,” said Perpetual Help coach Sammy Acaylar, who is using their stint here to prepare for the coming NCAA Season 91.

League leader Cagayan Valley picked up an easy win against newcomer Baguio, 25-11, 25-9, 25-11, completing the rout in just 49 minutes.

Rookie Marivic Meneses uncorked a team-best 11 hits while Angeli Tabaquero, Wenneth Eulalio and Janine Marciano combined for 24 points as the Lady Rising Suns imposed their strength on the net over the Summer Spikers, 43-14, to notch their second straight win for the early solo lead.

Baguio fell to 0-2.

The crisp-hitting Suyat, who scored a match-best 24 hits, including 20 on attacks, also drew solid support from Marijo Medalla, who chipped in 15 points, while skipper Ana James Diocareza and Shallane Eniong combined for 11 of the team’s impressive 16-block output.

Fajardo, also the Lady Dolphins’ team captain, fired 18 points, including key hits in the fourth set when they came from behind to steal the extended duel and force the decider.

But Suyat upstaged her, blasting away kills after kills to help the Las Pinas-based school secure their first victory in the season-opening conference of the league presented by PLDT Home Ultera and sponsored by Shakey’s.

“She (Suyat) made some good plays in the final set that really helped us,” said Acaylar.

Coast Guard, which fell to Navy, 24-26, 14-25, 18-25, also last week, dropped to 0-2 in the league backed by Mikasa and Accel.

Perpetual barely nipped Coast Guard in spikes, 56-55 but scored 10 points more than its rival in blocks while Shyrra Cabriana and Medalla combined for a seven of the team’s 12 aces.

Meanwhile, the Fourbees-Coast Guard match day will be shown starting at 1 p.m. today over GMA News TV Channel 11 while the Cagayan-Baguio faceoff will be shown on Monday, according to the organizing Sports Vision.
