PAL SENIORS: CCC hangs on, Alta Vista makes big move


BACOLOD CITY – Cebu Country Club held on to the lead in the Founders Division, but the biggest mover Saturday was Alta Vista Golf and Country Club as it snapped up on the lead of pacesetter Villamor on a very interesting penultimate day of the Philippine Airlines (PAL) Seniors Interclub here.
Playing at the Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club in Bacolod City, Cebu Country Club found its lead dwindling to only two points against Orchard. The Cebuanos have a total of 406 points in three days on rounds of 140, 132, and 134.
Ramontito Garcia, who is regarded as a living legend of Cebu golf, led the Cebuanos with 47 points while Nelson Yuvallos had another big day shooting 46 points and last to count was either of the 41s submitted by Dr. Lor Alaan and Masatsugu Ochiai.

George Hong, Kim Kwang Seok, Koichi Horii, and Nonoy Tirol will be playing on the final round for CCC at the Bacolod Golf and Country Club in the town of Murcia today.
Orchard fired rounds of 136, 126, and 142 for an aggregate of 404. Host NOGCC runs third with 398 (123-135-140) while Veterans is fourth with 392 (131-127-134).
The Founders class is the second-ranked division of the tournament for players aged 55 years old and above. The event uses the Molave Points System.

In this third-ranked division, defending champion Alta Vista Golf and Country Club, clawed back to within a hairline against Villamor at Bacolod Golf and Country Club.
Villamor has a three-day total of 359 while Alta Vista now has 358.
Entering the third day, Villamor enjoyed a 21-point lead over Alta Vista, which jumped to second after two rounds overcoming a sluggish start at seventh place on day one.
In the third round, Ramon Sebastian led Alta Vista with 46 points while Wendell Yap scored 44 and last to count was skipper Roy Damole with 40 points. Nolan Rada made 39, which did not count in the four-to-play, three-to-count format.

Sebastian will lead Sunday’s final round push of Alta Vista and he will be joined by Rada, Razy Razon, and Masahisa Kawakami.

Wendel Yap, a veteran in the PAL Interclub, had his biggest day as a senior player when he made 44 points in Binitin during the third round.

Villamor fired rounds of 125, 124, and 110 while Alta Vista made 108, 120, and 130.
A far third is Fill-Am Hawaii with 340 (111-110-119).
The final round for this group will be played at NOGCC.

It is a see-saw battle in the premier category as Canlubang seized the lead from Luisita.
Canlubang led after the first day, but Luisita seized the driver’s seat after day two.
In the third day, Canlubang came with its guns fully loaded to retake the top spot.
Canlubang has a three-day total of 433 points (150-143-140). Pem Rosal led Canubang with 48 and also counting were Abe Avena with 47 and Mari Hechanova with 45. The 44 of Dave Hernandez did not count.
Luisita has a total of 426 (146-149-131).
Del Monte is third with 401 points,
