One of Cebu’s fast-rising young female triathletes, Aaliyah Ricci Mataragnon, will be missing the Hunat Sugbu Triathlon in Argao, a southern town of Cebu, slated for next month after she has to undergo therapy for a left shoulder injury.
She had clinched the Female Sprint Division title of last year’s first edition of the Hunat Sugbu Triathlon which was held in Oslob, also a town south of Cebu.

The 14-year-old Mataragnon suffered the injury about two weeks ago when she fell while joining a bike race at the South Road Properties.
Mataragnon, a member of the Philippine developmental pool, had fallen when the front tire of her bike hit the rear tire of her coach, John Philip Duenas’s bike.
Her father, Ritche, said that the doctor had advised for his daughter to momentarily stop all of her training and workouts as she undergoes a two week-therapy and a rest for six weeks.
Should Aaliyah continue to feel pain on her left shoulder, she will have to undergo an MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging).
Despite nursing an injury, the young Mataragnon had competed in last Saturday’s Singapore International Triathlon wherein she finished in the fifth place in her category.
Earlier this month, Mataragnon had ended her final Alaska IronKids stint with a podium finish after she placed third in the Girls 13-14 category.
Mataragnon is being supported by Plantation Bay Resort & Spa, Jumbo Plastic and GT Writing Instrument. Her other sponsors are Malee, Metro Graphix, United Robina Corp. and Calsome.
