Lyon Woo leads Amo Cup X winners

Cebu-based Korean businessman Woo Jung Bum (Lyon Woo) bagged top honors in Division A of the Albino D. Gothong Memorial Cup also known as the Amo Cup played at Alta Vista Golf and Country Club in Pardo, Cebu City last June 5 and 6.

Woo fired nines of 26 and 28 points in the Molave Points System to finish with a total of even-par 54 points.

First runner-up up for Division A was Chris Kokseng who fired one-over-par 53 points on nines of 23 and 30 squeaking past lawyer Marlo Cugtas in the countback by virtue of a higher back nine score.

Cugtas settled for the second runner-up honors.

The Division B title went to Eman Abay-abay with his score of one-under-par 55 points on nines of 24 and 31 edging Edwin Go Lim in the countback.

Lim’s nines of 28 and 27 earned him the first runner-up trophy. Second runner-up was Jessie Cayanong with 54 points (26-28).

The best score in the tournament was logged by Marlon Gaw who fired six-under-par 60 points on nines of 32 and 28 to run away with the Division C crown.

First runner-up was Ezra Jed Decena with 52 points (26-26) while Jason Yu finished one points back at 51 to take the second runner-up honors.

Ian Paek topped the seniors’ division, which was for players aged 55 to 69 years old shooting one-under-par 55 points.

First runner-up via the countback was Edgar Panuncillo with 54 (25-29) edging Dr. Peter Aznar, the club’s vice president, in the countback. Aznar took the second runner-up award.

The super seniors (70 years old and above) title went o Club Treasurer Vicente ‘Inting’ Go with a score of even-par 54 points.

First runner-up was Rolando Alberto with 52 and second runner-up was Arturo Go with 49 points.

The ladies’ title went to Mercy Garcia with 53 points.

First runner-up via the countback was Mila Oliveros while Hannah Melendez finished as second runner-up. Both of them fired 52 points.

Barbara Gothong-Tan, daughter of Albino, thanked all the participants and sponsors for keeping the memory of her father alive.

Gothong-Tan, who is also president of the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce, said that proceeds of the tournament will be going to the various charitable projects of the Alpa Foundation.

Alpa Foundation was established by Albino and his wife Pacita. It helps people across many sectors but one of its biggest contributions is through education.

By participating in the tournament, the players were also able to support various charities.(NLQ)
