The Lady Tams whipped the NCAA champions St. Benilde Lady Blazers, 25-16, 25-18, 25-18, last week to kick off their campaign in the mid-season conference of the league sponsored by Shakey’s with the Morayta-based squad fancied to get past the Red Spikers, who could not seem to get going with back-to-back setbacks.

Game time is at 4 p.m. before the Lady Engineers and the Altas slug it out in a Group B match. Both games will be shown live on ABS-CBN Sports + Action Channel 17 and 23 and via streaming on www.sports.abs-com.

Bernadette Pons, Mary Joy Palma and Toni Rose Basas combined for 31 hits against San Beda with the troika tipped to lead the Lady Tams’ offense against the Red Spikers, who will lean again on guest players Janine Marciano and Wenneth Eulalio and Nieza Viray.

FEU also boasts of two new setters following the graduation of Gyzelle Sy with Angelica Cayuna and Angela Negrito splitting times the first time out and combining for 36 excellent sets.

“I will continue to give them playing time and see what happens from there,” said FEU coach Shaq de los Santos.

Meanwhile, TIP tries to bounce back from a straight-set blowout to defending champion National U last Monday as it squares off with Perpetual Help, which also dropped a straight-set loss to San Sebastian in the inaugurals of the league backed by Mikasa as official ball and Accel as official outfitter.

The top three teams from each group after a single round elims will advance to the quarters where they will carry their respective elims records, making each match important.

In the Spikers’ Turf Season 2 Collegiate Conference, UST goes for a share of the Group B lead as it tangles with San Beda at 12 noon which can also be viewed live via streaming, according to the organizing Sports Vision.

UST downed the National College of Business and Arts, 25-18, 25-20, 25-13, and is out to join Ateneo and UP with another victory.

FEU (0-1) and St. Benilde (0-1) play each other at 10 a.m. in Group A.
