Dante Enrico (6th from L) with daughter, Elora (7th from L) and race director Vissuelo Rebojo (5th from R) pose with teachers of the Marigondon Elementary School and store employees after the press conference launching the Elora Supermarket 1st Anniversary Run.

In an effort to give back to the community that patronizes their store, the Elora Supermarket is encouraging all runners to join its 1st Anniversary Run on November 16 in Marigondon, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu and contribute for the benefit of the Marigondon Elementary School.

According to Evelyn Orongan, the assistant principal of the Marigondon Elementary School, who attended the press conference at the Elora Supermarket, having the supermarket just across the school benefits mostly the students and the teachers as they just cross the road to buy their school needs.

Aside from the school, the supermarket also caters to consumers from the neighboring areas.

The Elora Supermarket, which opened last year, is a product of 19 years of operating several outlets of a general hardware store in Cebu and Lapu-Lapu, said Dante Enrico, the head of the Dan Enrico Corp.

He decided to put their first supermarket in Marigondon not only to cater to the needs of the people there but also to provide jobs.

Currently, the Dan Enrico Corp. employs more than a hundred workers.

The anniversary run will have three distance categories—12K, 6K and 3K and a 1.5K walkathon to encourage kids to take part in the event.

Although the walkathon is made for kids, it is also open to adults. Registration fee is pegged at P50. To ensure the safety of participating kids, it will be held inside the Mactan Island Memorial Garden.

To encourage the students to take part in the activity, a free running clinic will be held at the Marigondon Elementary School with the schedule to be announced later.

Race director Vissuelo Rebojo said that they are planning to tap top racers of Cebu for the clinic.

Registration fee for the 12K is P450, P350 for the 6K and P250 for the 3K.

Registration fees are inclusive of racebib, refreshments and one entry to a raffle that will be giving out P24,000 worth of prizes.

Except for the 1.5K, all participants of the three other distances will also get singlets.

Enrico said that a single purchase of goods worth P1,000 at the Elora Supermarket will also entitle a 50 percent discount of the registration fee.

Those interested can sign up at the Athletes Foot in Ayala, Planet Sports outlets in Ayala and Pueblo Verde, Elora Supermarket and Dan Enrico Corp. branches in Bacayan, SRP Mambaling, Babag, Sudtungan and Cordova.

Interested participants can also register online via store.aktib.ph.

Cash prizes awaits the top 3 male and female finishers of the 12K, 6K and 3K.
