De los Santos soars in ICTSI kiteboarding



Doque de los Santos put on a remarkable performance in the second leg of the first ICTSI Philippine Kiteboarding Tour, posting three podium finishes, including a victory in the Cabrinha Hangtime Challenge in Santa Maria Beach in Ilocos Sur last Sunday.

Delos Santos, an ICTSI-sponsored rider from Boracay, wowed the crowd with act and bested Ronel Mateo and Ryan Cahilig to capture the Hangtime crown in the three-day event sponsored by International Container Terminal Services, Inc. and the provincial government of Ilocos Sur.

Louie Fernando, a Cabrinha Greenyard team rider, reasserted his mastery over the field in the Twin Tip Course Race, bagging the crown for the second straight time with Delos Santos finishing second and Mateo ending up third in the event organized by the Philippine Kiteboarding Association.

PKA president Jay Ortiz nipped first leg champion Atte Kappel and Carlo Leongson in the tiebreak to snatch the Twin Tip Race Masters Category title after the troika wound up tied in points in a tightly fought race of the event backed by Boracay Greenyard, the official distributor of Cabrinha equipment, Stoked, Dakine, Aloha Boardsports, and supported by Tanduay Ice, Colt 45 and Summit Water.

Dong Manuel lorded it over the field in the Freestyle category, beating Roldan Astronaut while Delos Santos shared third place honors with Ryan Cahilig.

Lone woman entry Jingjing Gajisan held her ground in the grueling race and emerged champion in the Twin Tip Race of the event which drew 33 kiteboarders from Manila, Davao, Puerto Princesa, Caliraya, Puerto Galera and Boracay and top bets from Sweden, France, Brazil and Singapore.

Meanwhile, action resumes next week for the third leg set in Lake Caliraya n Cavinti, Laguna on Feb. 7-9. The circuit winds up in Puerto Princesa on March 7-9.
