Manila Southwoods Masters pulled the rug from under hot favorite Cebu Country Club team A to bag its fourth straight overall crown in the 9th Philippine Airlines (PAL) Ladies Interclub at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club in Pardo, Cebu City Saturday.

Manila Southwoods Masters fired a total of 561 points on rounds of 274 and 287 points to escape by the skin of their teeth.

Cebu Country Club-A finished with 560 points on rounds of 281 and 279 to take second place while taking third is Del Monte Golf Club of Bukidnon with 498 points (249-249).

Host Alta Vista tried to do a final push on the second and final round, but fell short and finished fourth in the premiere Championship division with 487 points (228-259).

Sofia Angela Legaspi led the final day surge of Manila Southwoods Masters with 52 points and got ample support from Maria Annika Cedo and Maria Sofia Chabon with 51 points apiece.

Lora Roberto fired 46 points, skipper Beachie Abiera had 44 and last to count was Christine Valdehueza with 43.  The last member of the team was Marie Claire Ong with 41.

The tournament format allows a team to field a maximum of eight players with only the six best scores to count.  The Molave Points System was used.

Cebu Country Club-A, which had a seven-point lead after the first round, failed to maintain its form.  Junia Gabasa, Lois Kaye ‘LK’ Go, and Crystal Faith Superal each turned in 50 points and also counting for the team total were Mary Kim Hong 47, Stephanie Olea 46, and Jyra Mae Wong 36 for a second day output of 279 points.

Hannah Jayne Wong carded 35 points and skipper Catrina Martinez had 24.

Del Monte, playing with only the bare minimum of six players on the final day, had Rainstar Roque leading the pack with 49 points.  The other players were Pamela Mariano (48), Martina Miñoza (42), Rhea Langgamin (41), Starlyn Roque (35) and Annika Mendoza (34).

Missing a podium finish, tournament debutante Alta Vista was led by Ericka Lim on the final round with two-under-par 56 points.  Lim, 17, is the back-to-back ladies cub champion.

Also counting for the team total on the second day were Choi Yi Hwa 47, Mikylah Marie Crystal 46, Gabrielle Marie Crystal 44, 11-year-old Weifang Gao 35, and skipper Marina Kaufmann 31.  The other members of the team were Sol Pasion and Annika Yeo.

 

FOUNDERS DIVISION

Valley Golf Club bagged the title of this second-ranked group with a total of 492 points on rounds of 243 and 249.

The team members are Evangeline Apuhin, Maria Consuelo Conti, Dina de Jesus, Maria Consuelo Fregil, Isabela Miravite, Lorenz Kayla Nocum, Violeta Pegels, and Jocelyn Sevilla.

Second place went to Alabang Country Club with 481 (234-247) followed by Manila Southwoods Legends with 422 (200-222).

 

SPORTSWRITERS DIVISION

Tagaytay Highlands ruled this third-ranked group with an aggregate of 431 points on rounds of 212 and 219.

The team members are Virginia Bote, Maria Rosario Dimson, Rosalie Heo, Imelda Leyeza, Hedy Gaisano See, Sofia Sun, Maria Marlene Varua, and Bernadette Wong.

Second place went to Bacolod Golf Club with 378 (181-197) followed by Apo Golf and Country Club on third with 352 (174-179).

 

FRIENDSHIP DIVISION

            Davao City Golf Club bagged the title of this fourth-ranked group with an aggregate of 386 points on rounds of 210 and 176.  The team is composed of Rosalie Antivo, JM Balbuena, Stella Barnes, Wennie Dixon, Virginia Hermiston, Evelyn Quinsay, Roselyn Sara, and Josephine Vergara.

Finishing second is Wack Wack with 342 (158-184) and third place went to Camp Aguinaldo with 334 (152-182).

 

INDIVIDUAL

            Ericka Lim ran away with the honors for Division A with a two-day total of even-par 108 points on rounds of 52 and 56.  She fired three birdies Saturday nailing them on the 11th, 14th, and 17th, which are all par-4 holes.  The only blemish on her scorecard was a bogey on the par-4 5th.

Second place went to LK Go of CCC-A with 103 points (53-50) while third place went to Sofia Chabon of Southwoods with 102 (51-51).

For division B, Isabela Miravite of Valley took home the title with 96 points (43-53) followed by Eden Hernandez of Eagle Ridge with 87 (40-47).

Madonna Nomo of Bacolod topped division C with a total of 70 points followed by Davao’s Evelyn Quinsay with 67.

The division D title went to Aalia Labrador of Apo Golf with 46 followed by Rebecca Verdeflor of Victorias with 39.
